Deleting Positions in a Feature in GPS Pathfinder Office Software

If a rover file contains feature information, the features will display in the GPS Pathfinder OfficeTM software, but you will not see individual positions. To edit positions, temporarily delete the feature and then edit it; then undelete the feature. This TIP gives the procedure to delete a feature. The feature will be recreated based on your edits.

The Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office software stores coordinate system definitions in the file CURRENT.CSD, which is shared with other Trimble applications. Installing other Trimble software can cause the list of coordinate systems to appear incomplete. Also, changes made to coordinate system definitions using the Coordinate System Manager utility may not be reflected in the GPS Pathfinder Office software. This Support Note describes how to resolve this issue.

GPS Pathfinder Office Software: Truncated Links to Feature Attributes

When you collect data in the Trimble TerraSync software, you can link files (for example, digital photos) to a feature attribute. When you download a rover file into the GPS Pathfinder Office software, any linked files are also downloaded onto the computer into the data directory for the current project. If the project path name is longer than 100 characters, the link to the file may be truncated when it is written into the rover file (SSF file). This can cause the link between the feature attribute and the file to be lost. This issue is most likely to happen when you use TrimPix technology or a Trimble Nomad handheld with built-in digital camera. However, it can occur when linking files to feature attributes in the TerraSync software. This support note explains the issue and how to avoid it.

Some raster background image formats may contain an embedded world file that is required by version 3.0x of the Trimble TerraSync Professional edition software to correctly display the background image. The Data Transfer utility in the GPS Pathfinder Office software needs a separate world file when transferring a raster image to the TerraSync software as a background file. If you try to use the Data Transfer utility to transfer a raster image that has the world file embedded in it, you receive the error message The world file for “” raster background cannot be found. Please ensure that a world file exists in the same folder as the background file.

An invalid time zone record in the file trimsurv.ini causes the GPS Pathfinder® Office software to freeze when you start the program. This problem occurs if there is a line in the trimsurv.ini file that the GPS Pathfinder Office software considers incomplete. New User-Friendly CORS Download Format

The User-Friendly CORS download service has been updated. From 1 May 2005, if you want to automatically download CORS base data in the GPS Pathfinder® Office software or the GPS Analyst™ extension for ESRI ArcGIS, you must apply a software update for your software, and download the latest base station list.

Trouble Using Compressed RINEX Base Files

Some base station providers now use the Hatanaka, or compressed RINEX, file compression for their RINEX observation files. Hatanaka files contain a "d", rather than an "o", as the last filename character. These files are then UNIX-compressed.

An accurate base station reference position for differential correction of GPS positions is necessary. Most community base station operators enter an accurate reference, usually calculated by GPS survey methods.
